As a faith based wellness coach, I offer a full addiction recovery program for those who are in a position to do a self self-paced program. Here is an overview. This is the standard email I sent to everyone who inquires about the program. It can be done in person or remote zoom meetings. I am based in the Treasure Valley of Idaho in the Boise Idaho area, but can do remote coaching as well.
In summary, my program is based on John 8:31-32, that discipleship and knowing and understanding the TRUTH is what sets us FREE from every stronghold that blocks us from fully knowing God and realizing all of our God-given potential in life, including the stronghold of addiction.
To break it down a little, the *Word of God* in the heart of a follower of Christ who has the Holy Spirit breaks ALL strongholds. A stronghold is anything that holds us in bondage and prevents us from knowing God and living in accordance with his will to realize and fulfill our maximum potential in life. We know addiction is a stronghold, because it becomes our “master,” and the Lord says we cannot serve two masters.
So my program is a Bible and faith-based mentoring program, fully outpatient and does not offer any detox facility or anything like that. It is mostly for people who are functional and in a position to follow along with the program with some check-in accountability to get well. For those who need detox and monitoring, or for those who are suicidal or hallucinating, etc, I recommend a professional inpatient facility. If you are suicidal, please call 911 now. God bless you!
Functionally, my program is a one-on-one Bible-based fellowship in which we take a journey into the light of truth, with a fully open mind and heart, willing to share, willing to listen, willing to meditate and pray. The goal of the truth journey is to reach a point of faith based understanding, which is the gateway to full healing and ultimately conquering of the stronghold. Yes, it is profound understanding (which includes acceptance) that leads to healing and conquering.
There are generally three phases of the truth journey. Please understand this is just a loose outline. We can change it as needed, and sometimes there are some overlap, but these phases serve as a guide to keep us focused.
Truth Phase 1: help me understand the stronghold. The person under the stronghold helps me understand their life, upbringing, how the addiction started, and the impacts of it. When it comes to addiction, every single one has a root cause, so it is imperative we get to the bottom of it. You can think of addiction like a weed; unless you pull it by the root, it never fully comes out.
This can be a difficult phase for some people because it’s hard to admit these things, but the admission part is critical to the freedom part they seek. The truth makes us free. Granted, some people are not willing to talk about these things until we’ve built some trust. Therefore, sometimes before we get to this phase, we get to know each other a few times. I am flexible and work at the pace of the person. In this space, I offer strategic and tactical tools for understanding, strengthening, healing, overcoming combined with biblical reading assignments for meditation and prayer. I also offered lifestyle/nutrition guidance to aid the healing process.
Truth phase 2: biblical Fellowship, in which we dialogue. I share relevant scriptures tailored to the person on their own journey for discussion and prayer. We cover biblical stories, biblical truths, biblical promises of God. We talk about them openly and share our own experiences. The Bible says in Revelation 12:11 we overcome evil by the “blood of the lamb and the word of our testimonies.” I share my own testimony of overcoming multiple addictions, and those I have helped. as I share my testimony earlier if the person would like to hear it. I’m flexible.
Truth phase 3: in this phase, we move into the realm of FAITH BASED UNDERSTANDING, where the fruits of healing, strength, and power to MOVE MOUNTAINS OF STRONGHOLDS reside. This is where we start realizing all the fruits of our truth journey labor. This is where the “lightbulbs” come on and the hope and faith start increasing. These are the weapons of God against all strongholds and seek to separate us from him.
As we wind down phase 3, we stay in touch. I continue to be a counsel and encouraging accountability Friendas needed, when needed, according to the persons needs. Some people check in once a month. Some people want to check in every week. It really depends on the person. But I sincerely believe in the necessity of sponsorship for as long as needed.
To summarize, my addiction recovery program is essentially a truth and faith formation fellowship program. The Bible teaches that truth and understanding are what makes us free. This is why Jesus said, “Come to me all of you who are weary and burdened (including by addiction), and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and LEARN from me. For I am a gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls (including rest and freedom from addiction). For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” It is also why the Bible says in proverbs 4:7, “Wisdom is SUPREME. Get understanding, though it cost you everything, get understanding.”
The truth, the wisdom of God, and the understanding the Holy Spirit gives us about everything (including our own hearts “Lord reveal to me my own errors” Psalm 19) is the key to breaking free of every stronghold and conquering every obstacle, including addiction. I know this because the Bible says it, and I know it because I have lived it. This is exactly how I overcame three addictions and have been addiction free for 18 years and counting. I have helped many other others break addictions this way also.
